State Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Sean M. Connolly honored area individuals with the Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal at a ceremony hosted by state Sen. Art Linares and state Rep. Christie Carpino Thursday afternoon.  About 60 veterans were recognized during the event, held at  Portland High School. 

The Middletown-area chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution is celebrating it's 125th anniversary this year.  The chapter, rooted in Middletown and serving the surrounding communities, was named after a Durham Revolutionary patriot, James Wadsworth.  The group's "Real Daughters" are daughters of patriots; others are granddaughters.
