Middletown marked the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Monday at the Connecticut Trees of Honor Memorial at Veterans Park. The ceremony included the Middletown Police Benefit Association Bag Pipe Band, a color guard, speakers and the ringing of the 5555, which signifies that a firefighter has lost his life in the line of duty. The remembrance was interrupted for moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. and 9:02 a.m., the exact times when the two planes flew into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center.
