With the mercury at 70 degrees Saturday in Middlefield, skiiers were hitting the slopes a full three weeks before the start of autumn at Powder Ridge Park. A conveyor brought enthusiasts 2,800 feet up the mountain to the top of a 500-foot run. The surface, a high-tech version of artificial turf, uses plastic polymer fingers that provides a slippery surface without water. Skiing and boarding plus two tubing lanes will be available year round.
